What I Spent 29 Hours On Last Week

This is the reason why cheerfulegg has been really quiet lately:

rescuetime

Weeks like this have been pretty typical for the past 4 months. I’d work on this project during any free time I had: Early in the morning, late at night, on the bus, while on dates, etc (just kidding on that last one – my girlfriend would totally kill me). Heck, 2 weeks ago, I took a couple of days of leave off from work and spent two days at the airport typing furiously away and drinking multiple $1 Coffee Bean airport brew refills. Yes, I’m frugal even when it comes to coffee.

I’m not telling you this to brag (there’s nothing to brag about when you give up all forms of a social life). I’m just explaining why I’ve been M-I-A from my blog for the past couple of weeks, during the final stages of my project. I only have so much time before and after my “regular” job, so I chose to spend it on something that I’ve been wanting to do for a long, long, time.

So what’s this top-secret project that I’ve been spending like a gagillion hours on for the past 4 months?

The answer: I’ve been writing an ebook.

This is a full-length ebook – not a mini one like my first ebook Small Tweaks. This new one is over 100 pages and 27,000 words long (Though I’ve probably discarded like 30,000 words of draft material to date). I think I wrote more words in 4 months than I ever did in 4 years of college. And that’s saying a lot, because I spent way too much time on Gchat and Facebook.

What’s It About?

Passive investing for people living in Singapore.

While I’ve blogged about passive investing before, most of the specifics are way too detailed to be able to adequately cover in a single blogpost. Many other blogs / books out there dwell a lot on WHY you should invest passively, but not so much on HOW you can actually execute it.

For example,

  • What criteria do you use to pick ETFs?
  • Where do you find them?
  • What are the mistakes you should avoid?
  • How would you pick a brokerage?
  • Which buttons should you press when you execute a trade?
  • What are the exact systems and reminders you can set up to invest consistently?

You guys have sent me a dozens of emails with these questions, and I’ve responded. This book will teach you all the specifics above, and more.

When Is It Gonna Be Launched?

I only have a working PDF manuscript at the moment, which I’ll be releasing to a few people to review. Depending on how long this takes (and how fast they read), I’ll probably spend the next month or so tidying it up and putting on the finishing touches.

I’ll also be spending more time on this blog, upgrading the infrastructure and writing more material for you guys. I totally get the fact that some of you are probably annoyed that I’ve been missing for the past couple of weeks, so let me make it up to you. :)

All in all, I’m super pumped. Writing a full-length book is something that I’ve always wanted to do, and while this was way more work than I expected, I hope it helps you out if you’re just starting out in investing.
